The Musings Of An Opinionated Sod [Help Me Grow!]

What Brands Can Learn From Bands …

Given I won’t be blogging for the next couple of days [bar a daily ‘interesting rating’] I thought I’d upload one of the articles I wrote for MTV which …

1 I’ve been banging on about for ages

2 Seemed to cause such a debate within the music business

As you will hopefully be able to tell, its rather tongue-in-cheek … though the comments I make about Chris Martin – and his bloody wife – aren’t, ha!

[To view without the aid of a microscope … click on the box marked ‘On Slide Show’ [bottom right] then when it takes you to the website where the orginal article is held, click on the box marked ‘FULL’ and with abit of luck, you’ll be able to read the ramblings of an Anti-Coldplay fan with relative ease]

I’m off now so wish me luck with the conference … I assure you I am going to need it, ha!

I know you write everyday on your blog, but I forgot how well you write and present stuff in work situations.

You are still the best pitch document writer I’ve ever known so maybe it would be useful if you put more of your papers (and presentations) up for people to read so they can see how you should approach them in the same way as great creativity: entertaining, interesting, relevant and brave.

I am going to see your boys and girls now, will report back on all the anti-Robert stuff Billy will have tried to start. 🙂

Pete … you have a great job, you’re very talented, you’re very successful, you’re married to a wonderful and gorgeous woman, you’re doing amazing things SO WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO GET IN MY PANTS???

But thank you. If I can choose things that won’t cause ‘ethical or professional clashes’ I might just do that.

Have fun with the guys, hit Billy for me, ha!

Nice.
Im glad im taking presentation advice off someone who can make Coldplay actually sound interesting and halfway meaningful!

I second Pete’s idea too.

Comment by Rob Mortimer

That cover image kicks ace.

And the presentation isn’t too bad either, i guess… 😉

insulted by a queen fan, chris martin must be quaking in his overpriced designer shoes. saying that, i do like the paper and not just because youve used the word ”bollocks” but that does help. probably explains why lauren likes it too. 🙂

Comment by andy@cynic

why do you hate Coldplay so? (dare i say it here?) i actually think their songs are pretty good.

Comment by z

is that you gwynnie? isnt there a film you have to go overact in?

Comment by andy@cynic

yes andy, that’s why i like it. lots of swear words. if it didn’t have them, it would suck.

Comment by lauren

I’m going imagine I’m Rob for a minute:

Because it’s the wettest music this side of a March weekend, imagined by someone who, for all his grandiloquent thinking, has no idea how the poor live, and desperately, desperately wants to be Bono. It’s a pity that for all the posturing, he has about an eighth of the talent.

He’s married to a woman who has managed to forge a career out of mediocre acting and desire to be ‘designer’ British.

Oh yeah, and they named their kid after a fruit. Says it all really.

Ahem. Did I mention the music was utter dreary shite?

Comment by Will

Thaaaaank you Will.
I will buy you a pint tomorrow for that!

Comment by Rob Mortimer

swearing and pissing on all things coldplay? i fucking love lauren and will and this blog isnt too bad either.

Comment by andy@cynic

I cant argue about any blog that hates the dreary whining snoozers.

Honesty is the best policy, I’ve always found. Especially when it comes to MOR music.

Comment by Will

Absolutely. Im as honest about music as I am about ads!

MOR? Coldploy are on the boring side of MOR, slightly less mind-numbing than Travis.

Comment by Rob Mortimer

Actually, I’d disagree with that.

Travis’s first album (U16 Girls/Happy et al) was not MOR at all. Second album trended towards it, and since then it’s all MOR.

Coldplay have never done anything except whiny rubbish. A notch above Starsailor, but that’s not being kind, really.

On reflection, being attacked by a damp paper towel is SLIGHTLY better.

And Rob M – I’ll take you up on that offer. Pints are always appreciated. 😉

Comment by Will

True, but for “Why does it always rain on me”, and the utter horror of winning an Ivor Novello for lyrics that went “If we turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn turn. If we turn turn turn turn turn turn we might learn, learn to turn.”

Coldplay have had one good song ever.

Im sure they are!

I hate being on best behaviour.
Afternoon.

Poor Marcus.
Afternoon!

Careful.

So I finally get home after a long, long, long day of presos to see you slagging off [1] Nottingham Forest supporting Travis … who I only like BECAUSE they support my beloved team … and [2] Starsailor – who I absolutely love even though they do play whiny shit.

Then to top it off, I see Marcus being restrained, Andy being generous with his ‘love’ and Will doing a frightening version of me. This makes me happy as we’ve not had as much surreal shit as is normally the case on this blog.

And Marcus … being ‘well behaved’ doesn’t mean you have to be totally silent. Or does it? Ha.

Hope all is well with everyone … one more day to go then I too can ‘get back to bloody normal’. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Comment by Rob

it does.
