The Musings Of An Opinionated Sod [Help Me Grow!]

I’ve Heard Of Niche Business, But This Is Ridiculous …

I never realised being a postal or telco worker could be so dangerous.

Joking aside though, there is something that I quite like about this – albeit in a weird way – at least you know who the hell they’re talking to, which is better than so much of the bland communication out there, which seem to have been created under the edict of “DO NOT ALIENATE ANYONE” which half the time ends up not talking to anyone either.

Communication is at it’s most effective when it talks with [not ‘to’] its audience clearly, relevantly, engagingly and interestingly … so all a one-size fits all approach achieves is the creation of a lot of background chatter, rather than some up-front attention, meaning and intrigue.

Effectiveness isn’t about how many people it reaches, it’s about how many people are moved to react to it.

Clients, agencies and media people should take note.

are you ok campbell because this is another short, to the fucking point post that almost has a fucking point.

and have you found the shanghai planner mental hospital yet.

Comment by andy@cynic

Wasn’t that called Cynic?

Comment by Rob

i know this is a dumb question, but is it a hospital?

Comment by lauren

its probably a fake fucking dvd store.

Comment by andy@cynic

It’s seems like it could be a nice bonus for the workers – that they get their own hospital. Without knowing much about the healthcare situation in China, could this be quite a nice drawcard for recruitment?

Comment by Age

dont know if it counters postman having to walk on streets of fucking spit though.

Comment by andy@cynic

I’m not sure about it Age – I’m looking into – however given the place looks old enough to have been built when communism central was still really communist, my suspicions are that the Government were involved in it in some way [they’re involved in everything in some way] even though on one level, it feels against the guiding principals of communism where everyone is treated equally. Then with over a billion people, maybe this was the way to manage ‘patient flow’.

Will find out.

PSFK would call this an example of iteration design of a post digital businessmodel canvas

Comment by niko

and BBH labs would regurgitweet it

Comment by niko

youre doing me proud niko. fucking proud.

Comment by andy@cynic

I’m just impressed with the term “teration design of a post digital businessmodel canvas”.

Did I say “impressed?” I meant scared to death.

The “appeal to all audiences” segment is the holy grail for brands but being so bland as to have no clearly defined meaning or relevance is never going to be the way to go.

Comment by Pete

fucking crawler.

Comment by andy@cynic

I’m trying to figure out why they felt the need to add an English translation to the sign.

Comment by George

because when campbell is sacked from w+k and becomes a postman, hes going to need to fucking know where the hospital is for his personality transplant. and they think youre fucking smart.

Comment by andy@cynic

That may be true Andy – and I don’t know if what I’m going to say is the case here – however it has been known for brands in Asia that don’t speak English to add that language to their signage and communication because they believe it makes them appear more sophisticated to their audience, even though the reality is the likelihood of an English speaking individual [read: Westerner. read: White Westerner] ever wishing to engage in their brand/product/service is similar to Sarah Palin marrying a black guy and denouncing the Republican party.

I think this is the post that Lauren wanted me to write, albeit longer and not as good.

And being the postal worker who has to deliver all the stuff you buy seems pretty life-threatening to me.

Comment by John

wait till the fuckers have to bring his fucking dalek to his fucking toys r fucking us house.

and what do you mean the post lauren wanted you to write. that fucking sends shivers up my spine.

Comment by andy@cynic

close. but not quite. it doesn’t have the same dry, ruthless wit that you can cut with.

andy, i don’t know what the hell they put in your geriatric mash, but it’s not good for you if it affects your spine.

Comment by lauren

I’m too hungover for all of this.

Comment by The Kaiser

Andy will be proud. So will George.

Parker I mean.

Comment by Rob

Where’s Graeme?

Comment by The Kaiser

He’s on the toilet after taking him to a dodgy dumpling place.

Or being exploited by us and being made to work his little ass off for the cost of the flight and hotel.

You decide.

Comment by Rob

You be nice to him, you hear me?

Comment by The Kaiser

Did he say hello to you from me?

Have you taught him to put chopsticks in boiling water before eating?

Comment by Rob Mortimer

ok, now it really sounds like being a w+k planner is like being in the cool club at school. stop it will you.

Comment by lauren

i know you come from fucking oz lauren but theres no fucking way anyone called graeme can be fucking cool which means i autofuckingmatically hate him less than all planners called steele, ramos or sebastian. and campbell even though paper doilies are fucking cooler than him. now who the fuck is graeme and why hasnt his friends told him to stay the fuck away from campbell?

Comment by andy@cynic

there is so much wrong about that sentence Lauren.

Comment by The Kaiser

what’s wrong with it is that i clearly forgot the html tag for dripping sarcasm.

Comment by lauren

fight. fight. fight. fight.

Comment by andy@cynic

If the stray dogs in Shanghai are anything like those in Northern Territories I can see why this is needed…
