One of the things I always find amusing is how expats take photos of stuff in Asia and then take the piss out of them.
OK, so I do understand why, but what bothers me is when people do it and fail to acknowledge that from a local perspective – or at least within a segment of local perspective – it makes sense and all they’re doing is judging by their standards.
I’m not talking about things like bad English, I’m talking about things like this:
Yes, I think drinking panda shit sounds absolutely horrendous – and medical science has cast doubts on it’s anti-cancer properties [which is what they’re claiming is the benefit] – however for some, it is not as mad as you and I may think, and while I’m not suggesting we should all change our opinions on what we think is acceptable, it’s worth remembering that what is classed as right and wrong is not always as clear cut as we might like to think, as this lovely clip from Goodness Gracious Me [and the real version of it] amply demonstrates.
