The Musings Of An Opinionated Sod [Help Me Grow!]

To Paraphrase A Bad 1970’s British Kids TV Show: Why Don’t you Go And Do Something More Interesting Instead …

To be quite honest, I’m amazed anyone reads this blog.

It’s hardly the font of knowledge and sophistication is it.

Hell, over the years I’ve written about a crappy talkback radio station, incontinence and the size of my best friends appendage.

Seriously, it is worse torture than the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay faced.

I can only assume in a past life, you did something really bad to deserve such pain.

But I have a solution.

Because the best – and nicest – planner in the World, Mark Sareff, has started a blog.

Better yet, it’s full of clever stuff delivered in a voice that sounds like a friend is talking to you, not a professor … and this is coming from a man who comes from South Africa!!!

OK, so after that wonderful example of 1980’s racism, let’s get back to the point shall we?

The fact is, I know there are a lot of other clever folks out there who are doing and writing similar things … from Northern to Martin to Doddsy to name just 3 … however, unlike those other guys, Mark wouldn’t kick me in the head if he had the chance [well he would, but he’d at least apologise afterwards] which is why I adore him the most and why I am saying that if you have 2 minutes to spare each day, don’t come here and read my bunch of utter bollocks [especially as by the time you read this, I’ll be in the good ol’ US so there’s not going to be any more blog posts until Friday, or 3 years if the immigration department get their way] … go here and feel like you’ve done something good for yourself. For once.

I get to make the first comment. And keeping with the tradition created by others, it is going to say absolutely nothing of any value or purpose. The good news? This is the last post of the week as I’m in the good ol’ USA.

As if they didn’t have enough problems already.

George, Pete, Baz … you were lucky, I was in San Fran but didn’t have time to see you. And the rest of you are lucky as I’m not coming to NYC or Vancouver or Guantanamo Bay or wherever you live. But I am in Portland, so spare a thought for Dan.

No. You can’t be. Why are you always going to portland. Please tell me it’s because you’re in shit and not moving back to the land of the free.

That first pic is really disturbing… even you this blog’s standards.

Nice racist video. Didn’t anyone tell you that you’ve lost your empire and you rate lower than Boise, Idaho.

Comment by DH

I believe that show was produced in Nottingham.

Comment by George

You’re right, it was.

A little known fact [which only I found out once I read their wikipedia page] was that before the first episode was broadcast, all reference to the Royal family were cut because the Duke of Edinburgh was going to be opening TV centre – just down the road from my parents house – a few days later.

How long are you in a Portland Robert? I have to go there on Tuesday.

Comment by George

I won’t be joining him Rob.

Comment by Bazza

Good. I’d only want to see you when you’ve launched a new iThing. Though it’s arguable you guys haven’t done that for the last 7 years. Boom Tish.

I leave around 10am on Tuesday. When are you here and is there any way you could come tomorrow? I’m in LA on Tuesday afternoon then I leave on Wed back for Shanghai. I’d love to see you if it’s possible. Give me a call, my phone’s address book went a bit mental and I can’t remember your number.

Comment by Roberto

I’m going to be really fucking ill on Tuesday.

Comment by Billy Whizz

When was that show on? It’s mad.

Comment by Bazza

’84-’96

And that video is nothing compared to some of the stuff they did.

Mark Sareff must have some great dirt on you.

Comment by Bazza

Oh yes. Most definitely. Plus I genuinely love him so it’s a win:win. For him. Ha.

Comment by Roberto

Is this the real reason Andy is away? He knew you were coming.

Comment by Billy Whizz

Have you destroyed Portland yet Rob?

Comment by Bazza

Having seen Robert last night, I would say there’s a chance Portland destroyed Rob.

Comment by George

A town full of people with ridiculous bikes, dubious musical taste and bad dress sense must have been hard for him to take.

Comment by A pedant.

+1

Comment by northern

A reluctant +1.

Comment by Roberto

I’ve never wanted to kick you in the head as it happens, apart from the Freddie Mercury note, that was abuse worthy to be fair.

Comment by northern

Says the man who has a sister who has a boyfriend who loves Queen.

It does rock, which is why that stunt will eventually rewarded.
Maybe in the next life you’ll come back as a Leeds fan

Comment by northern

Because being a Forest season ticket holder is so much fun?!!!

Comment by Roberto

I can’t believe I’m saying being a Leeds fan is worse than Forest, but it’s unfortunately true

Comment by northern

And thanks for giving me one more reason to not bother with this blogging lark anymore.
