The Musings Of An Opinionated Sod [Help Me Grow!]

Every Now And Then There Is A Product That Makes Me Excited, Inspired And Utterly, Utterly Jealous …

… well this is that product.

How brilliant is that?

I utterly love it. LOVE IT.

It works on so many levels it’s ridiculous … from friendship, play, health and life.

The fact adland – an industry that claims to be obsessed with creativity, but really is obsessed with making ads – bestows huge amounts of praise and awards for ‘solutions’ that have questionable purpose makes me feel a bit ill.

Hell, this is a football that could even make Nottingham Forest seem like they were doing something useful. For once.

Seriously, this should have been done – or at least backed – by FIFA, given all the shit they spout about trying to make the World a better place through football.

But of course, what they actually mean is that they can make their bank account a better place through football.

For more information on this brilliant idea can be read here.

forest don’t have the energy or skills to even kick a fucking ball. just like their stupid, lazy bastard fans.

Can we not make this about Forest. Yes … I know I started it, but come on, you know this is a genius idea.

Comment by Rob

fifa do have something like that except it produces cash instead of energy and they keep it for themfuckingselves.

Comment by andy@cynic

Yes, that’s very true. And still from just kicking a ball around.

It works on so many levels – except the one that counts – http://www.pri.org/stories/2014-04-08/impoverished-kids-love-soccer-ball-powers-lamp-until-it-breaks

But at least they’re trying. And I don’t mean that snarkily.

Comment by John

course you fucking dont. your application to join the nra has just been approved.

Comment by andy@cynic

I don’t know how to take that. I’ve never once had any application approved.

Comment by John

Still more energy than forest produce in a season.

Comment by DH

Diana Ross is a better at soccer than forest.

Comment by DH

OK, that’s not good … but everyone has to start from somewhere and the underlying idea is great. Plus it must be hard to make a product that is kicked hard hundreds of times a day. Even Apple probably couldn’t manage that.

Comment by Rob

I think it’s brilliant. Everyone has to start somewhere and this technology opens doors for other developers to think in ways they may previously had not considered. I don’t think the advertising industry would ever get to this sort of idea unless they wanted to win an award for something scammy.

The ad industry produces huge amount of scam and still doesn’t come up with ideas like this. Even when they do, you discover they scammed that off another organization who developed the technology. See Geometry’s water purification idea at this years Cannes.

Comment by George

Oh yes. Even though everyone is standing by it – even the organisation who came up with it and have seen their brilliance ‘hijacked’ by a WPP company.

If you get kids running around kicking a soccer ball all day, they’ll want to sleep when they get home. Last thing they’ll want is a bulb shining in their eyes. Tech guys are sadists.

Guess this is why it didn’t work out at Google.

Comment by Rob

That comes across as bitchy. As much as I hate apologising to you, I know you’re just being a cheeky bastard … and I was trying to do the same … but in type, it sometimes gets lost in translation.

Sorry.

Comment by Rob

Gay.

Comment by Billy Whizz

Thanks.

Does it make David Beckham a bit brighter?

Comment by Ian Gee

No. There are limits to the capabilities of technology.

Comment by Rob

It would be nice to think that Mr. Dodds immediately set to, looking for a solution to the problem. It would be nice.

Comment by Ciaran McCabe

I’ll get right on it.
