Amazon Prime’s Definition Of A Deal, Is Not My Definition Of A Deal …

OK, I appreciate they probably have data on me that states I buy a lot of gadgets.

After all, I’ve bought robot balls, rabbits and dogs from them in my time.

And yes, as you can see – or should I say, as you can see if you squint really, really hard at the picture at the top of this post – I am looking at purchasing yet another piece of pointless tech-tat. However, as obsessed with shit as I am, I really don’t think offering me a £1 discount is going to tempt me to act on my instincts

A QUID.

A BLOODY QUID.

BASICALLY A 0.44% DISCOUNT.

I know after Brexit, £1 is now known as 50 pence, but this is ridiculous.

Hell, even a second hand one only saves me £26.91.

I’ve always admired how Amazon used their data and buying power to offer people more reasons to buy more things, but it appears – at least where I am concerned – they can’t be arsed, which [worryingly] probably says more about me than it does about them.

Still bought it, didn’t you.

of course he did. hes a moth to shit techs flame.

No I didn’t.
That’s 3 pieces of tech that I almost bought but didn’t. I blame fatherhood and this nagging feeling that future bankruptcy beckons and I’m just trying to delay it for as long as possible. Or it could be maturity, but we all know that’s not the case.

Who are you?

In 300 years when Otis kids kids inherit all your shit and assuming they don’t throw it into the trash, they’re going to have a season of antiques roadshow dedicated to their crap. Won’t be worth a thing.

If they keep it, they should be sent to prison.

Given that your idea of a deal is a freebie, you’re stating the obvious.

But If a used one commands only a small discount, one might be able to infer that demand is strong and that price elasticity of demand is small. Therefore there’s no need to offer big discounts – that’s just throwing away guaranteed revenue.

I don’t know how to break it to you, but their world doesn’t revolve around you and their data on you is less valuable in this case than their data on the whole market. That tells them that maximising revenue is achieved by offering minimal discounts.

Also your maths is rubbish. Unless I’m misreading your blurry image, it’s closer to 0.33%.

or maybe its because theyre so fucking new theres not many fucking second hand pieces of shit to go round.

Comment by andy@cynic

Same thing.

Comment by John

You have better data than me.

Comment by John

Errrrm, it is 0.33%. God, I’ve always been bad at maths.

And yes, you’re right … they manage their inventory to maximise profit [after screwing the manufacturers down] however I wonder why they felt it necessary to offer any discount on the ‘brand new’ product, given 1 quid makes them look the opposite of what they are trying so hard to look like to the mainstream public. ie: The bargain palace.

Comment by Rob

theyre trying to not make you buy campbell. ownership by you is the kiss of fucking death for any brand.

@John
Robert’s maths inability is why he was never allowed to enter fee negotiations with clients. That and his tendency to get over excited about the potential of a project and offering to do it for free.

Comment by George

And still he ended up with all the money.

2%

Comment by Bazza

At least when I got 2%, I didn’t have use of a calculator. I did on this occasion – and used it – and still got it wrong.

Comment by Rob

Thanks for that George.

I have one of those cameras Rob. I’ll sell you it for £27 off list price. Bargain.

Comment by Bazza

I wouldn’t give you the pleasure. But is it any good?

Comment by Rob

Does it matter if it’s good or not?

Comment by Bazza

Fair point.

Home made porn just got a lot more interesting.

The new definition of a snuff video. You watch it and then want to kill yourself.
